Connect/Map a Subdomain
We have made it easy to use a subdomain on Caribonix.com if you already own your Domain, (e.g. yourcompany.com) and website live. This enables you to create a blog as an extension of your website (e.g. yourblog.yourcompany.com).
Through our Domain Mapping service, you can map your yourblog.caribonix.com address to your created subdomain and we will automatically redirect traffic from your old Caribonix.com address to your subdomain.
Mapping a subdomain with the Domain Mapping is free
If you do not have a domain registered, you can register one directly through Caribonix.com by Contacting Us. If you already own a domain and would like map it directly to your website, not through a subdomain, read the instructions for mapping an existing domain to your website.
Before Proceeding – Important Notes
Caribonix.com automatically removes the “www” from all URLs. Mapping the “www” subdomain is not supported. Also, we currently do not allow mapping to subdirectories, such as yourcompany.com/blog.
Caribonix House Rules Apply
The Domain Mapping service is not related to domain registration or renewals costs – You are required to continue to manage and maintain your domain with your current registrar. (If you do not have a domain, you may be interested in registering a domain directly through Caribonix.com by Contacting Us.)
The Domain Mapping service does not enable the permission to use any kind of prohibited code, or upload additional/third party designs, themes or plugins. Your website, store or blog is still hosted at Caribonix.com, which means that you will not have FTP access to your files and you will still be required to abide by our Terms of Service.
Instructions for Mapping Subdomains
Instructions on how to add a “CNAME” may differ between domain registrars. If you’re unsure of how to do this, we recommend contacting your domain registrar for assistance with this step. If you registered your domain through Caribonix.com Contacting support and we will happy to guide through this process.
Step 1 – Create a “CNAME” at your Domain Registrar
Log in to the control panel of your domain registrar’s site, and locate the Zone File Settings, DNS Manager or similar area. Once located you will then create a “CNAME” that points your domain to your website
Address (yourblog.caribonix.com)…
- Record Type/Type – Should be “CNAME”
(Indicating that you would like to point to Caribonix.com by using its name)
- Alias/Host – Should be blog
(Indicating that the blog.yourcompany.com record should point to Caribonix.com)
- Answer/Points To – Should be yourblog.caribonix.com
(This points blog.yourcompany.com to your yourblog.caribonix.com Address)
Step 2 – Domain Mapping Set up Settings
To connect your newly created subdomain to your Caribonix.com website, blog or store Follow the Domain Settings guide (use your subdomain “e.g. blog.yourcompany.com”)
Adding a Subdomain if your Domain is Mapped to Caribonix.com
If your website is already hosted with Caribonix.com you may also wish to have a subdomain with us as well. Let’s say, that you already own the domain lovemydogs.com, which you have already mapped to your Caribonix.com website at lovemydogs.caribonix.com.
Now you want a new domain called forums.lovemydogs.com.
First you will need to create a new website with a new plan at Caribonix.com (e.g. forumslovemydogs.caribonix.com) which will hold the content at forums.lovemydogs.com. Be sure to do this while logged in as the same user that owns the primary domain.
Once the new website has been created and activated, while still in your forumslovemydogs.caribonix.com Dashboard, follow the steps above to create and connect your new subdomain directly to your Caribonix.com website.
Be sure to set your new subdomain forums.lovemydogs.com in Tools>Domains in your forumslovemydogs.caribonix.com Dashboard.
That’s it you should be up and running with only a few clicks.
